Play Mode

Proposal
World Switcher lets you choose between 'play mode' and 'experimentation mode' (or 'sandbox mode'). You can't change between them while in-game.
Play mode would make you unable to pick up creatures, unable to pull them around as stupidly as you can in C3/DS (you couldn't drag them in the opposite direction to the way they want to go without hurting them), and perhaps restricting scrolling to the immediate area surrounding your creature.
To do this, we need stuff which is fun enough to encourage people to choose play mode. Alternatively, we could disable experimentation mode by default, and make people deliberately turn it on via a CAOS file or key combination or similar, but that sounds silly, so we're going to concentrate on making up enough fun stuff.
OBviously we should sabotage things like the CAOS command line! :)
Lordrusty-On the suggested story page there are two distinct phases, before and after the native life was encountered. Perhaps play or 'story' mode could be with the native life while experiment/sandbox mode could be before be before the native life is encountered.
Fun stuff
Challenges
Note that challenges should NOT have a reward like a pickup or something.
However, we could have some kind of gauge which goes up as you complete them, with very silly awards on the way.
- Getting one of your creatures to places in the world or getting each creature to circumnavigate the world.
- Managing to grow wildlife/critters in a certain way: eg, grow 6 frooble trees, keep the doozer population above 10.
- Norn generation milestones
- Retrain norns to speak English instead of their original language. Later, encounter other groups that speak the old dialect. Player tries to retrain them but ends up learning enough of the language too.
- Vampess suggests things like 'X carrots eaten'
- Must make a creature ingest a tracer seed before you can track its location or see it in your kits. This lets us have groups of aliens that the hand doesn't have control over while still giving the hand the chance to control all creatures.
- Something like Frog Norns: a type of creature that is hard to get and nonstandard when gotten.
